The Lord is always near to us when we call upon Him and in need of His
helping hand. God knows exactly when we need to be encouraged and in His
own special and unpredictable ways is able to let us know that He is near.
I hope you will be encouraged by this message that shows how God will
always calm our fears in times of despair.
This story involves a pastor of a store front church. The pastor's church
is called The Almighty God Tabernacle. On a Saturday night not long ago,
this pastor was working late, and decided to call his wife before he left
for home. It was about 10:00 PM, but his wife didn't answer the phone. The
pastor let it ring many times. He thought it was odd that she didn't
answer, but decided to wrap up a few things and try again in a few minutes.
When he tried again she answered right away. He asked her why she hadn't
answered before, but she said that it hadn't rang at their house. They
brushed it off as a fluke and didn't give it a second thought.
The following Monday, the pastor received a call at the church office,
which was the phone that he'd used that Saturday night.
The man that he spoke with wanted to know why he'd called on Saturday
night. The pastor couldn't figure out what the guy was talking about. Then
the guy said, "It rang and rang, but I didn't answer. "The pastor then
remembered the mishap and apologized for disturbing him, explaining that
he intended to call his wife.
The man said, "That's OK. Let me tell you my story. You see, I was planning
to commit suicide on Saturday night, but before I did, I prayed, 'God if
you're there, and you don't want me to do this, give me a sign now.' At
that point my phone started to ring. I looked at the caller ID, and it
said, 'Almighty God'. I was too afraid to answer!"
We should never allow this world to get us down and discouraged, but
rather we need to remember the strength and comfort we have in the God who
created us. When times get tough and you are encouraged by the enemy to
give up and throw in the towel, remember the words of the Lord spoken to
you when He said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Nobody ever
said that life would be easy, so you stay strong and endure to the end,
never giving up and always trusting that God has you in the palm of His
hand. (Hebrews 13:5) (Isaiah 49:16)
Read and meditate on these scriptures:
Psalm 139:17-18 "How precious are your thoughts about me, O God! They are
innumerable! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up in the morning, You are still with me!"
Jeremiah 29:11-14 "For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD.
"They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a
hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for Me in
earnest, you will find Me when you seek Me. I will be found by you," says
the LORD. "I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will
gather you out of the nations where I sent you and bring you home again to
your own land."
Proverbs 3:5-8 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on
your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct
your paths. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord
and turn your back on evil. Then you will gain renewed health and vitality."
Isaiah 49:13-16 "Sing for joy, O heavens! Rejoice, O earth! Burst into
song, O mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people and will have
compassion on them in their sorrow. Yet Jerusalem says, "The LORD has
deserted us; the Lord has forgotten us." Never! Can a mother forget her
nursing child? Can she feel no love for a child she has borne? But even
if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your
name on My hand…"
